Albanian Wedding Tradition

The wedding day is a memorable day in almost every culture. But for centuries it has had a special place in Albanians life. There are some core events that compose the whole Wedding party.
Weddings last one week
Traditional Albanian weddings are rather epic – they begin seven days before the ceremony. Especially at the home of the groom the wedding starts one week before. The guests sing songs and dance characteristic dancing. It is like a big party that involves the whole village, or neighborhood. The wedding party of the brides usually is held on Wednesday or on Saturday. Whereas the groom’s wedding ceremony, one day after, on Thursday or on Sunday.

The tale of Raki and other Albanian Beverages

Albanian beverages are recognized all over the continent. Made from fruits or other ingredients, Albanian beverages seem to make a meal complete. The Albanian traditional drink is ‘RAKI’.  It was brought to Albania through the Ottoman conquest of the country in the late 14th century.
Raki is made from fermented and distilled fruit, usually grapes but sometimes plums, blackberries, mulberry etc. Albanians are very fond of their national drink, and, despite the fact it is about as potent as vodka it is not drunk as a Russian would drink vodka. It is sipped in tiny amounts and both making and drinking raki are almost art forms.
